Again, the fave character.
So. Since tumblr basically feels safe because I have, like, 3 followers, I’m going to post this. I’m taking a week off Arrow. Which pretty much means I will be checking my social media less also (not that I’ve been up to much here on tumblr before the hiatus). So this way I can post it and not be obsessively checking to see if anyone sees it or likes it. So yeah. Rambling now.
I think I may continue to work on this during the week, though. Not sure yet. (I’ve got more outlined and a few drabbles of scenes, but yeah.)
I figure posting it here will be less scary to me than ff.net or AO3 at this point. And this is the only part that remotely close to being post-able…
My first go at ff:
→ → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → → →
I hadn’t stepped foot in that world for 5 long years. If I hadn’t run into the blonde and bombshell, I could’ve stayed on my own little island forever…
The blonde he literally ran into. He was rushing through the rain-slicked streets after another not-so-great night on the hunt for some lowlifes terrorizing the local business owners in the Glades.
She came hurtling around a corner and crashed into him with a audible “Oof.” His good arm automatically wrapped around her waist to steady her while she grabbed his shoulders to steady herself. Thankfully, his light hiss of pain was covered by the immediate flow of her words.
“I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. Well, I was paying attention, actually. I just didn’t notice you coming. Not that you aren’t noticeable, because I’m sure you are. But I’m in a bit of a rush and I—”
He let himself listen to her out of breath voice as she rambled on, before he decided to interrupt. He flashed what used to be his trademark smile and said “I’m always willing to be swept off my feet by a beautiful girl.”
She suddenly looked uncertain and a little bit uncomfortable, but that was probably for the best. She needed to continue on her way so he could get back to his place and collapse. Now that his forward momentum had stalled, he was starting to feel all the aches, pains and the familiar rushing in his ears that let him know he had lost way too much blood tonight. He hoped she didn’t notice his arm tightening around her waist as he had an increasingly difficult time keeping himself upright.
"You’re…you’re…" she glanced at his face, and for a split second he was sure she somehow knew everything there was to know about him and how he spent his nights. A twitch of her fingers that still rested on his chest caught her gaze. "You’re bleeding."
Surprised, he let out a quiet huff of exasperated amusement. “I don’t exactly need to be told that.”
The clatter of trash cans and breaking glass caused her to toss a nervous glance over her shoulder. After a quick and somehow thoughtful glance at his face, her arms slipped from their resting place on his blood-soaked chest as she placed herself in a support position under his arm. He found himself slowly moving forward when Blondie spoke again. “Alright. Time to get you somewhere less bleeding-out-in-the-open-where-anyone-can-see-me.” She took a deep breath. “You’ll have to tell me where to go.”
By the time he directed her to pull the keys for his building out of his coat pocket, Felicity Smoak was huffing and puffing and starting to second-guess her decision to help this stranger. Somehow he seemed to become larger and larger the closer he came to losing consciousness and keeping him upright was becoming increasingly difficult. She had kept up a stream of chatter as she went, trying to keep him awake and moving.
She had a fight on her hands wrestling his keys out of his trench coat pocket one-handed and then let out an annoyed groan as she tried to make sense of the massive set of keys now resting in her hand. She reached up to touch his cheek.
“Hey. You still with me, stranger? I need to know which key to use. Which key opens the door?”
He stared at her face for a second, brow furrowed. Sluggishly his gaze moved down to her hand holding the keys between them. His arm slid from her shoulders and he clumsily fumbled with the keyring before pulling out a couple of keys and handing them back.
Felicity ended up pushing him against the brick wall while she tried to unlock the door. With a cry of victory, she turned to him with a smile just as his body began to slide down the wall.
“Oh no, you don’t!” She grabbed for him and managed to get her hands under his arms and heave him to his feet. Heels had definitely been the wrong choice in footwear that morning.
“Come on, you. Stay with me. You are way too heavy for me to pick you back up. You fall down and I’m leaving you outside.” He snorted as he fought to focus on her words. To focus on staying conscious.
Somehow she managed to get him down the hall, through another door and onto the couch. Mostly. It was his own fault. If he hadn’t decided to pass out as soon as they were within shoving distance of the sofa, he might be more comfortable. She still tried to rearrange his limbs into a more comfortable position, without much success.
Felicity bit her lip as she looked over her shoulder and into the other room. Heading into the tiny kitchen, she grabbed a couple dishtowels and tried very hard not to notice how much red covered her hands and sleeves. After tucking the towels behind the wound in his back, she carefully peeled off her coat.
“Something tells me bloodstains are not coming out of my coat.” Certain it was just the latest casualty of this awful day, she let the coat fall to the floor and began to search for the bathroom and hopefully some kind of first aid supplies.
He woke up slowly, which was his first clue that he has a bad night. Then came the pain. He lay still, mentally cataloging the aches and pains. Shoulder. That was the worst.
His memories of the night before were hazy at best. The last thing he remembered with clarity was getting shot. Then there was a blond woman…with Dig’s voice? No, he was certain he hadn’t seen Diggle last night. He was in his apartment. Everything looked the same—wait.
A pile of green fabric. A coat maybe? A coat that was apparently covered in his blood. It was a relief to know he hadn’t been so far gone that he had dreamed her up.
He found her sitting at his desk, which looked remarkably neat, not at all how he left it in his rush to leave the day before.
“I hope you don’t mind. It literally hurt my soul to see the state this office was in.” She stood, extending her hand. “Felicity Smoak.”
He just looked at her for a moment.
“I know. Oliver Queen, Arrow Investigations.” She nervously pushed up her glasses before gesturing awkwardly at the doorway he was leaning against. “It’s on the door.”
So it has been FOREVER since I watched these, so I’m a little shaky on my characterizations, I’m sure (longer for She-Ra than He-Man), but I randomly thought about She-Ra the other day and how I would totally be in full support of Emily Bett playing her. And this is where my mind went…
It would ruin my Olicity hopes and dreams (or just get rid of the whole Adam/Adora are twins angle), but I like the idea of this—
She-Ra/Adora - Felicity
He-Man/Adam - Oliver
Man-at-Arms - Diggle
Teela - Laurel
Evil Lyn - Isabel
Skeletor - Malcolm Merlyn
Bow - Tommy!
Angella - Moira
Glimmer or Frosta - Thea
The Sorceress - Shado
Frosta - Sara
Catra - Helena
I was waiting to see if I could come up with anything else exciting with this. but this is all. Just a cast-ish type list.
Because seacoloredeyes mentioned it in her tags, I confess that I miss Felicity’s babbling about Oliver’s hotness. But I’m like 99,9999999999% sure they subdued Felicity’s attraction to Oliver just to set up Oliver’s belief that she’s not into him at all, that as she got to know him more, even her crush faded away and now she only sees him as a good friend.
And probably the idea that she sees him as a family member didn’t help at all. It’s like, everywhere he looks, the only obvious evidence is that Felicity doesn’t see him as someone she’d be interested. And that’s okay. Even great. He didn’t need this complication anyway. The last thing he needed was a reason to confront his real feelings for his partner and have to deal with it.
If you don’t acknowledge it, it’s not real. You don’t have to take responsibilities.
Oh, I love this. I had never thought about it that way but now that you mention it, it makes complete sense.
(I hope you’re happy, btw, because this hurt my Oliver Queen shaped heart copious amounts. It’s kind of a good hurt but still, I hate those beautiful oblivious morons.)
And while I agree with you about the writers’ motive for the lack of innuendo, I still think a part of it a part of it is down to Felicity’s character development as a result of the fallout of the earthquake. I don’t want to write my reasoning down because I already did it here a month ago.
BUT that makes me love it even more, because character development that makes total sense for one of my favorite characters and that also helps the slow burn of my ultimate OTP? YES YES YES.
Oh, I totally agree. It’s part of her character development. That choice is double-edged, while it shows that Felicity grew up and also that her feelings are not just ~crush on the hottie hero, it also works on Oliver’s own development and soul research of his deep feelings ;)
To me, it’s also like she stopped seeing hotness and started seeing Oliver. And she doesn’t objectify him not because she isn’t attracted, but because yes, she is attracted, but it’s not the first thing that she thinks of when she thinks of Oliver. Now, we get more relationship like babbles like “I love how we spend our nights.” But it’s also that she’s moved on from getting floored at having a hot guy around because now? There are always hot guys around. Damn, she’s got to get some work done. (I do think that there has been a pause button pushed though but only in reference to their romantic relationship. I’m hoping that their emotional relationship keeps progressing.) I miss Oliver reacting to it though. I miss that kind of interaction.
Um, also could be as basic as the fact she likes him for reals now and is extra careful not to say anything awkward. (I mean, that’s what I would do anyway. I’m more likely to not talk to you if I have a crush than flirt. Or babble uncontrollably. Because I’m more careful.) I would agree with all of the above though too.
With my months of Arrow obsession, it’s pretty lucky that I haven’t yet had the overwhelming desire to dig out my old compound bow and start working on my archery skills.

I’m on a roll. Glad I’m basically all my favorite characters.
